Mediation philosophy and mediator style inform a mediator’s ability to develop rapport, establish an empathic connection with, and earn the trust of the parties.  These, coupled with a combination of the mediator’s various strategies are fundamental and critical to the mediator’s effectiveness.

This one-day, advanced mediator training workshop looks beyond the common “go to” strategies to focus on a blend of strategies that often prove more useful and effective than the traditional “Getting to Yes” model.  Given the variety and uniqueness of individuals, circumstances and disputes in any particular mediation, the strategies discussed in this workshop, while not exhaustive, fall into the following five categories that blend and fuse various strategies:

  -  Facilitative
  -  Benefactor
  -  Assertive/Directive
  -  Relational
  -  Personas

A central objective of the workshop is to help the experienced and practicing mediator expand the tools in her/his toolkit to become more successful in their mission to (1) help troubled persons, institutions, and parties work through and resolve their conflicts and disputes efficiently and effectively, and (2) deliver exceptional value by navigating the process with keener insight.
